‘It’s as if the snake died, but the stick didn’t break’

Preparations for the fair began by closing the Paris Road ground in Mirpur in the capital from the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Trading began from the middle of the month of Ramadan. The fair continued even after Eid-ul-Fitr. After Eid, on April 5, a news report titled ‘Fairs Occupying Grounds, Parks and Roads’ was published in Prothom Alo about the fair and illegal fairs in various areas of Dhaka’s two city corporations. Even then, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) authorities did not take any steps to close the fair. They conducted a drive at the ground on Tuesday and evicted the fair.

The fair organizers and traders say that the fair was supposed to continue until Monday, the first day of Baishakh. Today, traders were supposed to gradually remove their goods. After that, the decorator company hired by the organizers would remove the wood, bamboo, tin, and tarpaulin from the temporarily erected stalls.
