Police said that on Tuesday afternoon, when local people went to work at Akhkhamar in Sahebganj, a foul smell came from the abandoned toilet. They informed the Gobindaganj police station. Later, a team of police and fire service recovered the body from the toilet well and took it to the police station. Upon receiving the information, the family members came to the police station and identified the body as Sabbir. In the evening, the body was sent to the morgue of Gaibandha General Hospital for autopsy.
The schoolboy’s father, Mohammad Ali, filed a kidnapping case with Gobindaganj Police Station on the night of the incident. The case named three people, including Rabiul Islam (18), son of Abdus Chattar of Ramnathpur village, Abdul Alim (18), son of the deceased Lal Mia of Bishubari village in the same upazila, and Yunus Ali (35), son of the deceased Amjad Ali of Tarafkamal village. Four to five unidentified accused were named as accused.
The case report states that on Saturday afternoon, due to friendship, Sabbir Hossain was called from his house by Rabiul and Abdul Alim and taken to the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur road in Sahebganj Bazar of the upazila. There, four to five people, including Yunus Ali (35) of Tarafkamal village of the same upazila, who was waiting in a microbus, kidnapped him. After filing a case, the police arrested Rabiul Islam and Abdul Alim from their house on Sunday. They are currently in jail.
Gobindaganj Police Station OC Bulbul Islam said that during interrogation, his (Sabbir Hossain) nephew Yunus Ali informed the police that he was involved in the murder of the two arrested Sabbirs. According to the information provided by them, a RAB team arrested Yunus from Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. The process of sending Yunus from Dhaka to Gobindaganj is underway.
